9 APLA militants lay down arms in Karbi Anglong

Nine cadres of the newly floated militant outfit Adivasi People’s Liberation Army (APLA), including its deputy C-in-C and a Major joined the mainstream by laying down their weapons in a function at Khatkhati police station in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday night.
The surrendered cadres have been identified as Deputy C-In-C Jayanta Hao (31), Area Commander Dimesh Urang (26), Maj General Sahato Yimchunger (24), Bimal Topno (45), Sotu Karmakar (24), Gopal Baraik (38), Chowja Shyam ( 23), Joseph Barla (38) and Paul Kharia (34).
Of the nine cadres, 6 hail from Karbi Anglong, 2 from Golaghat and another from Dimapur (Nagaland).
The laid down arms include one semi-auto .22 Rifle, one SBBL gun, one handmade rifle (khaja), one .22 rifle, one .32 pistol, two grenades and 32 rounds of .22 live ammunition. The surrender was made before the Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Saikia at Khatkhati Police Station and Bokajan SDPO John Das was also present in the programme.
“The surrendered cadres are likely to be allowed to go home after necessary formalities,” said a senior police official.
