ABAM discourages intoxicants

Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) has been observing May 31 as the day of abstinence from intoxicants and on Tuesday organized a procession in all the churches under its constituent from 5 am.
According to executive secretary, ABAM, Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, the procession was not to condemn or curse those indulging in intoxicants but to give proper awareness to the general public on the effects of intoxicants and help them indulged to abstain from it.
The procession culminated in Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) with a short programme and attended by the apex bodies in Mokokchung Town and Excise Department, Mokokchung.
Speakers at the programme were: Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, Limatemsu Changkeri, Superintendent, Excise Mokokchung, Limanungsang Kichu, president, All Ward Union Mokokchung, S. Arenla Lkr president, Watsu Mungdang, and Limasangwa coordinator media and social concern, ABAM.
The speakers raised their concern on the alcoholics and increasing tobacco users, both smokeless and smoked in the Mokokchung district.
They were of the view that strict regulation from the administration and serious ministerial involvement of the church and family will have a greater impact in the fight for abstinence.
Meanwhile, ABAM encouraged every individual, organization, and Church to continually work towards abstinence from intoxicants.
Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang also expressed gratitude to all the Churches for their cooperation in observing the day of abstinence.
