The department of Agriculture on Friday, launched “agriculture farm machinery distribution under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM)” for Kharif -2022 at the deputy director, Central Store, Dimapur.
In a press release, office of the district agriculture officer (DAO) & project director, ATMA Dimapur informed that while launching the distribution programme, additional director, Agriculture, C. Peter Yanthan appealed to all the beneficiaries to make the best use of the machineries and utilise them not only for themselves but also share the benefits with neighbouring farmers and community. Delivering the keynote address, joint director Agriculture (SMAM), Medovilie Ladu emphasised on the importance of increasing agriculture production by using advanced technology.
He stated that the centre has taken up initiative activities through CSS schemes like SMAM, since agricultural mechanisation played a vital role in optimising land, water resources, manpower and other inputs to maximise production and productivity of available cultivable area and make agriculture a more profitable profession.
In Nagaland, he said sustainable agriculture mechanisation could be done in those areas where mechanisation was apt.
He said this would also require appropriate and precision agricultural machinery supported by the latest technology, which the department was currently striving for. Ladu pointed out that the department was focusing on farm mechanisation by providing user and terrain friendly machines/equipment to the farmers to boost their income. As the government target to double farmers income in the state, farm mechanisation can be an opportunity to support the state’s farmers, he stated.
He further highlighted measures the department had taken during the past few years for growth of agriculture sector and to augment farmers income.
The programme was chaired by joint director Agriculture SMAM, and vote of thanks was proposed by deputy director, Central Store, Hoshito Chophi, followed by technical demonstrations for efficient operation and safe handling of farm machineries by technicians.
After the distribution launching programme, the department informed that it would be issuing agricultural machineries to genuine farmer beneficiaries through all district and sub-divisional offices under the department during current Monsoon season 2022.
