ANPSA Dimapur unit annual inter-school sports meet begins

All Nagaland Private School Association (ANPSA) Dimapur unit’s annual inter-school sports meet 2022 cum volleyball and basketball tournament kicked off at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) sports complex here Monday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony as chief guest, Director General (DG) prisons, home guards & civil defense, Rupin Sharma, highlighted the growing drug use among students, especially “Sunflower”. He enlightened the students on the ill and lasting effects of drugs and how momentary pleasure could spoil one’s life forever.
DG (prisons) stressed on the need for school management to put their heads together and come out with mechanism to deal with students using drugs.
Sharma maintained that students indulging in drug should be given opportunity to rectify and not penalize him given that they were already under stress. “They need to be taken care and not out casted,” Sharma stated.
Suggesting schools to could come up with standard procedures in dealing such students, DG (prisons) assured to extend personal help.
Sharma also requested students to come forward to inform the elders or teachers if any of their friends were indulging in consumption of drugs, adding that friends play a vital role as some had the tendency to not share their problems with parents.
Speaking on the importance of sports, the chief guest stated that sports help bring out excellence and physical endurance and the spirit of not giving up. He said that sports teach the discipline to change tracks when one goes on the wrong path.
Further, dwelling on the importance of education, DG (prisons) noted that education was a process to unlearn certain things and learn modern way of thinking and living without discrimination of tribes or ethnicity.
He requested all students to donate their books to him, adding that the books would be of immense help for the inmates.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by ANPSA Dimapur unit president, Dr. Andrew Ahoto, special number by students of DBHSS, and oath-taking was administered by convener, Dr Francis.
