Ao Senden has extended its deadline on Trident Company to ensure that NH-702 (D) Mariani–Mokokchung road is fit for plying of vehicles by 20 more days. The Senden had served an ultimatum on the company on September 12 with September 20 as deadline to restore and make the road motorable. However, Ao Senden president Chubawati Longchar at a press briefing in Mokokchung disclosed that after having looked into the matter from all angles, it was decided “to grant a grace period of 20 more days w.e.f. 22 September” to the company for restoration of the road.
He also warned that in the event of failure to comply with the demands of the public, it will have no option but to chart its own course of action. Longchar said the Senden inspected the road thrice after the ultimatum was served, but found that the quality of workmanship was unsatisfactory. He also informed that sub-letting of works by contractors will not be allowed. Also, it was decided that the system of allotting works by authorities to the lowest bidder will also not be entertained in Mokokchung district.
He said these decisions were made to ensure that there was no compromise in the quality of works. He also declared Senden’s support to the order issued DC Mokokchung in restricting movement of heavy vehicles weighing more than 20 tonne including trucks with 10 wheels or above .
