Assam CM to induct two new ministers in cabinet

Two more ministers will be inducted into the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led cabinet in Assam on Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, Jayanta Malla Baruah, a Nalbari MLA, and Nandita Garlosa, a BJP member from Haflong, will be sworn in at Sankardeva Kalakhetra, The Statesman reported.
This is Himanta Biswa Sarma’s first cabinet enlargement since taking office in May of last year.
Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media earlier on Wednesday that two vacancies in his cabinet will be filled. He did not, however, reveal their identities.
Jayanta Malla Baruah was a two-term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly. He was elected on a Congress platform in 2011 but afterward moved to the BJP alongside Himanta Biswa Sarma. In the 2016 assembly election, however, he was unable to get a party candidacy.
He was re-elected to his Nalbari assembly seat last year. He has served as Sarma’s political secretary and has been a close assistant to him for a long time.
Garlosa was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Dima Hasao district’s Haflong constituency.
There had been speculation that one cabinet position in the state will be split between the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the BJP’s United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).
With the recent additions, Sarma still has the option of filling up to three further places. The Chief Minister has previously stated that this is a minor enlargement and that a larger rearrangement may be implemented later.
