Awareness on importance of swine vaccination

A month long awareness programme on importance of swine vaccination was undertaken by ICAR – AICRP on Pig, Nagaland Centre, Department of Livestock Production & Management, SASRD:NU from December to January 2023.
At the programme, AICRP led by Associate professor Dr M. Catherine Rutsa informed the piggery farmers in the State to get their pigs (preferably breeding stock) vaccinated against Classical Swine Fever as preventive measure before the onset of monsoon and outbreak becomes uncontrollable.
A total number of 550 pigs were vaccinated against Classical Swine Fever during January.
The ICAR – AICRP on Pig, Nagaland Centre, Department of Livestock Production & Management, SASRD:NU also held the off campus, ‘piggery self-help group Exchange program’ on December 12, 2022 at Sechu Zubza with the flower grower community.
Technical sessions on integration of piggery and flower growers along with manure preservation, discussion on piggery diseases, pig manure benefits and their usage was also carried out along with demonstrations and an exposure trip to the adopted villages to enhance their outlook and improve the farm working efficiency. The vaccines for Classical swine flu was provided by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.
