Awareness on PwDs held at New Jalukie

An “awareness-cum-consultation programme on disabilities” was organised by National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) – Javed Abidi Fellowship in collaboration with New Jalukie Village Council (NJVC) on August 31 at New Jalukie Village, Peren.
A press release by NCPEDP stated that at the session, fellow (research & advocacy) NCPEDP-Javed Abidi Fellowship, Ngaugongbe, who is also the joint secretary of Nagaland State Disability Forum, highlighted the scenario of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Nagaland.
He said disabilities issues are rising day by day but the government and society in general was still “lacking in knowledge and actions” in addressing these issues.
Stating that there was very less access to quality education, healthcare facilities and other welfare schemes for PwDs in the state, as such, Ngaugongbe said PwDs remain under graded in their personal development and quality of life.
He encouraged PwDs to move out from their home and experience outside environment and socialize with others and also urged the parents not to restrict their children within their home but allow them to get involve in social activities.
During the session, some parents of PwDs raised concerns about difficulties in attaining disability certificate, aadhaar card and non-payment of disability pension since 2020.
The session was attended by PwDs and their parents, anganwadi workers and village chairman and executives.
