An awareness programme on “tobacco free zone” was organised by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Tuensang office on January 31 at the Conference Hall, CMO Tuensang office.
A press release by National Health Mission (NHM) Tuensang informed that during the programme, CMO Dr. Keveduyi Theyo spoke on the various health issues caused by tobacco. He also informed CMO Tuensang office premises has been declared “Tobacco Free Zone’’ with immediate effect.
CMO cautioned that smoking, chewing, spitting and selling of tobacco in and around the premises was strictly prohibited and punishable offence as per COTPA 2003 Section 4,5,6 and 7.
Peren: An awareness on “tobacco free” was held on January 31 at the Conference Hall, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Peren office, wherein deputy CMO, Dr. Lanuakum spoke about the aims and objectives of the campaign.
A press release by CMO Peren office informed that Dr. Lanuakum emphasized about the harmful effects of smoking and the danger of second hand smoke in public places, government offices and homes. He talked about the provision of section-4 of COTPA 2003 which bans smoking in public places and urged the participants to stay away from the things that can harm their health and the environment.
Dr. Lanuakum encouraged the participants to do away with the use of tobacco and added the only way for an individual to completely eliminate tobacco-related harms was not to use them. A pledge was also taken during the programme.
