Awareness on use of GIS in agricultural research

One day awareness-cum-hands on use of Geographic Information System (GIS) in agricultural research was held on May 6 at School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) Medziphema.
A press release by SASRD Medziphema stated that the awareness programme was organised by Soil & Water Conservation department, School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) Medziphema in collaboration with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on fruits, Medziphema Centre, department of horticulture.
In the technical session, resource person Dr. Liza G. Kiba elucidated the participants on application of remote sensing and GIS in estimating potential runoff due to rainfall.
She stated that estimating total runoff was very significant for drawing any hydrologic structure or for forecasting flood and also to adopt mitigation measures.
In the second session, Momnath Mandal trained the participants on application of geospatial technology on agricultural sciences for precision agriculture. He said geospatial technology would help to monitor and predict the agricultural related activities.
The programme was chaired by organizing secretary, Sewak Ram, welcome address was delivered by professor R.C Nayak, opening remark by professor C. S Maiti and vote of thanks by Dr.Alongba Jamir.
Altogether 81 participants including teaching faculties, PhD scholars and master degree students attended the programme.
