Awareness programme on dengue

In view of the surge in dengue cases in Dimapur, Sumi Council DC area organised a dengue awareness programme in collaboration with Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dimapur on September 9 at DC Court Fellowship.
District Program Officer for Vector Borne Disease & District Surveillance Officer Dr. Kavito Zhimomi was the resource person of the awareness programme.


Dr. Kavito in his presentation gave a report on the prevailing situation in regards to dengue cases in the state particularly Dimapur. He informed that dengue viruses were spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. He said that dengue was largely a man- made disease and citizens were largely responsible for the rising dengue cases. Dr. Kavito therefore called for joint effort of all stakeholders to control dengue.


He appealed to the citizens to clean up the surroundings as stagnant water, clogged drains and water filled containers, tyres, flowerpots were the hot-spot of mosquitoes breeding and.
Dr. Kavito also urged the gathering to observe dry day, clean respective surroundings and observe all necessary preventive measures and gave an insight on the symptoms of dengue, treatment and preventions in the event of dengue infections.


Further, Dr. Kavito acknowledged the council for initiating the awareness programme and called upon every stakeholders to join hands with the department in controlling dengue.
Chairman Sumi Council Khekaho Aye delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the activities of the council towards dengue awareness program.


The resource person was accompanied by District Consultant for Vector Borne Disease Peter Sangtam, and the programme was attended by members of STL, Church leaders, GB’s and youths.
