Barak FC lift Capt Kenguruse Memorial Trophy 2022

Barak FC from Peren emerged as the champion of the 6th edition of Capt (Late) N Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra (Posthumous) Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Inspectorate General of Assam Rifles (North) in collaboration with Nagaland Football Association at IG Stadium, here on Wednesday.
In the final match, Barak FC defeated Lengreng FC also from Peren 2-1 and walked away richer by Rs. 2 lakh along with the running trophy and citations. Second place winners Lengreng FC won a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. While Head Hunters FC (164 Infantry Battalion TA Naga) & Tehok FC, Mon were awarded cash prize of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively for securing third and fourth positions respectively.
In the individual categories, Athanah Newmai and Haileuyibe of Barak FC with six goals each shared the “Golden Boot” award which carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Alemse of Head Hunters FC (164 TA) was adjudged as the “Best Goal Keeper” and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 6,000.
Haotinmang Thomsong of Head Hunters FC (164 TA) was adjudged as the “Best Midfielder” and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 6,000.
Mapie of Barak FC was adjudged as the “Best Manager” and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5,000. 16 teams from different districts of the state participated in the tournament.
Speaking at the closing ceremony as the chief guest, chief secretary, Government of Nagaland, Jan-e-Alam, expressed his appreciation to the role of Assam Rifles in ensuring that the inspirational story and sacrifice of Capt N Kenguruse, MVC, remain etched in the memory of the generations to come.
He complimented Assam Rifles for the tireless efforts in ensuring peace and prosperity in the state of Nagaland. Mentioning that Nagas were second to none in football, he highlighted that the tournament was aimed at fusing the indomitable Naga spirit and passion of Naga youth for football, thus creating avenues to achieve their aspirations and dreams. He complimented Team Nagaland for their stupendous performance in Northeast Olympics 2022. He further announced additional prize money amounting Rs. 75,000 to the champion, Rs. 50,000 to the runners-up and Rs 25,000 to the second runners-up.
During the prize distribution, Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera, SM, IGAR (North), Mr & Mrs Neiselie Kengurüse, parents of Capt N Kengurüse, president of Nagaland Football Association, Neibu Sekhose, and Head of referees, Kevingutuo Sekhose were the patrons.
During the closing ceremony, the audience were enthralled by a combined Pipe Band display by Assam Rifles and a video on legendary of Capt (Late) N Kenguruse, MVC (P).
