Basic archery training imparted to girls in Phek district

A three-month long archery coaching camp for girls in Phek district concluded on July 16 at Chozuba under Phek district.
Around 40 archers were imparted basic archery training under the guidance of archery coach Khosazo Thisa, Nagaland archery coach Hunezo Thisa and Olympian Chekrovolu Swuro.
The free coaching camp was organised by district administration in collaboration with Chakhesang Archery Association.
At the closing ceremony, certificates were also given out to the participants while some of the archers were selected for the forthcoming Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games to be held in the month of August.
Speaking at the occasion, Phek DC Razouvolie Dozo stressed on the need to take sports as a career rather than a recreational activity.
He viewed that games and sports were not just recreational activities like it was in the olden days but to ponder on the need to look beyond to take sports as a career.
In this regard, he asked the archers to look forward at sports for a livelihood. He advised that sportspersons needed discipline, effort and consistency to excel in their area of interest.
He said the coaching camp conclusion was a starting point where the archers should move ahead into bigger platforms.
He asked the archers not to only aim for area or district level tournaments but target to play at the national and international arena to bring laurels for the state and country at large.
While Phek SP Vesupra Kezo said learning the basics of the game at the tender age was important to become a sportsperson and appreciated the effort taken to organize the free coaching camp for the girls of Phek district.
He advised the participants not to give up easily adding that in sports one cannot succeed all the time but rather learn from the experience to grow and give more efforts in the future. While demonstration was held for Indian round category to showcase their skills they have learnt over the past three months.
