Bicycle rally on clean environment

Commemorating the National Pollution Control Day, the Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP), Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) organised a bicycle rally on December 2 under the theme, “Pedal for clean environment”.
A press release by NPCB informed that the rally conducted to create awareness and educate the general public on clean environment was participated by cyclists from Gear Thrills Cycling Club, Eco Warriors and individual cyclists of 20 participants.
A short informal programme was held before the rally during which NPCB chairman, Rusovil John briefed the gathering on Bhopal gas tragedy, which is regarded as one of the worst industrial environmental disasters in the history of India.
He said the main objective of the rally was to assert the importance of taking preventive measures to protect the environment and to raise awareness about pollution control measures and the prevention of industrial disasters. John then flagged off the rally.
The cyclists were received by member secretary, NPCB & EIACP coordinator, K Hukato Chishi at the NPCB office.
After the rally, a short informal programme was held, during which K. Hukato Chishi emphasised on solid waste comprising plastic waste, C&D and E-waste. He also stressed the importance of awareness in both the government and individual sectors.
