Body of woman drowned in river retrieved, another still missing

The body of one of the two women, who were swept away by a strong river stream in Manipur’s Ukhrul district five days ago, was found, as per official reports said on Friday.
Two women of Poi village in the interior Ukhrul district were swept away when they were crossing a stream of Challou river which suddenly swelled on their way home from their paddy fields on October 24 evening. After the tragic incident triggered by heavy and continuous by the impact of the Cyclone Sitrang, villagers immediately launched a rescue operation to rescue the two women who were missing. Amid the fears that they would have died, teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles and local police joined villagers in the rescue operation on the next day.
On the fifth day of the operation, the teams retrieved the dead body of one of the missing women identified as RK Ramreila (34) wife of RK Mathotmi of Poi village from the downstream of the Challou River around 2.30 pm on Thursday, the reports said.
The reports said that the body was fished out from the river in Tusom area which is about 30 km from the place where they were swept away. The teams continued the search operation to trace the body of the other missing woman. Drones were also deployed to assist teams to trace the body.
The search operation is likely to extend further across the Manipur boundary as after New Tusom village, the Challou River flows in Nagaland, the reports said. The other woman who is still missing is RS Ngamreila (30) wife of RS Varechung of Poi village.
