DIMAPUR: A capacity building programme was held at C.F complex, Marepkong, under Mokokchung district on April 7 for officers and staff of Forest department, field executive staff and DMU supporting staff for implementation of the project, “Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya, Nagaland” co-financed by Federal Republic of Germany through KFW (German Development Bank).
During the programme, divisional forest officer (DFO), Mokokchung, Dr. Sentitula stated that the objective of the project would include: promote sustainable and effective management of forests and biodiversity in the state; support improved connectivity and conservation of biodiversity; create and enhance livelihood opportunities of forest dependent communities and putting in place incentive mechanisms rewarding communities for effectively protecting and maintaining their CCAs.
She informed that one of the methodologies to be used under the project for mobilising communities and involving them in decision making process was the Financial Participation Approach (FPA).
This FPA is an approach developed in Latin America and is being implemented for the first time in India, in Nagaland, Dr. Sentitula informed.
It may be mentioned that the FPA approach for community mobilisation would be first carried out under Mokokchung Forest division covering villages under the Forest division of Mangkolemba Beat.
