Capt Kengurüse Memorial Trophy:Head Hunters win third place

Head Hunters (164 TA) emerged victorious in the third-place match after overcoming defending champion Tehok FC 2-1 in the ongoing Captain Kengurüse Football Tournament 2022, held at IG Stadium, here on Tuesday.
The 6th edition of the nine-day tournament is heading for a closure as the two finalists, Barak FC and Lengreng FC, both from Peren district prepare for the final match on Wednesday at IG Stadium, Kohima. A total of 18 teams from across the state took a shot at the title.
In their journey to the final, Barak had scored 24 goals while Lengreng scored 9 goals.
In the first match, Barak FC defeated Phiro FC, 7-1, followed by 12-0 win against Pro Aim Sports Club from Dimapur in the quarter finals. The team went on to defeat defending champion Tehok FC, 5-4, in the semi-finals.
Lengreng FC defeated Naga United FC 3-0, in their first match. The team beat Longpa Lomuden FC from Mokokchung 3-1 in their quarter-final match. While in the semi-final match, Lengreng defeated Head Hunters (164 TA) 3-2.
Barak FC’s Athanah Newmai is currently the top scorer with six goals to his credit.
Winner of this edition will walk away with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh along with the running trophy.
The tournament has been organised in memory of Captain (late) Neikezhakuo Kengurüse, MVC (P), who was martyred during Op Vijay in 1999, at Drass under Kargil district in Jammu & Kashmir.
