Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, has appealed to all the political parties and candidates to avoid single-use plastic and non-biodegradable material in their election campaign activities.
CEO office Nagaland through its media cell stated that the Election Commission of India on Febraury 26, 2019 instructed all political parties to take adequate steps and measures not to use single-use plastic as campaign materials (posters, banners etc) during the elections in the interest of human health and environment.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had on August 12, 2021 notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021 to all CEOs to bring to the notice of all stakeholders including candidates and political parties.
Further, NGT had asked all concerned for close monitoring of Election Commission of India instructions in this regard.
