Janata Dal (United) Nagaland state unit has described as “absolutely unjustified” the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC)’s demand for imposition of President Rule (PR) in Nagaland.
JD(U) state unit through its media and publicity cell said that Nagas have undergone untold sufferings in the past as a result of PR. It stated that the atrocities committed during the period of PR were “still a nightmare for those living victims who have faced the hardships during such emergency.”
The party said that the solution to Naga political problem did not warrant the imposition of PR. “Rather, certain interim arrangements under a vigilant civil set-up can precede in facilitating any political settlement,” JD(U) unit said.
Reminding the UDA government, particularly BJP for its pre-election promise of “Election for Solution”, the JDU expressed the view that imposition of PR was not in the right direction.
It said that if government of India was not committed to accept the will of the people for “Solution before Election”, then democratic process of election must be held instead of PR.
JD(U) state unit has, therefore, said the party was ready to either be a part of “Solution before Election or participate in the durbar of the electorate if Election is held.”
