Congress worker arrested for attack on CPI-M headquarters

Almost three months after CPI-M headquarters here was attacked using a ‘cracker’, a Youth Congress worker was arrested by the Crime Branch police on Thursday.

The Congress party pointed out that this was nothing but a ploy to divert attention from the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo yatra which is making waves after it entered the state on September 11.

Jithin, a local Youth Congress worker attached to the Attipara party unit on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, is being questioned by the police probe team since Thursday morning.

Soon after the so called ‘bomb’ attack as claimed by the CPI-M took place on June 24, the Left Democratic Front convenor and veteran CPI-M leader E.P. Jayarajan said this was done by the Congress party.

This created a huge furore with the Congress party, which hit back at the allegation very strongly. Thereafter as several weeks passed, Pinarayi Vijayan-led state government came under fire for being unable to track down the person who did it.

This ‘attack’ became the centre of attraction in the social media and numerous hilarious trolls also came out, putting the otherwise agile Kerala Police on the back foot.

Shafi Parambil , a three-time Congress legislator and President of Youth Congress, on Thursday hit back at the CPI-M and the police for coming out with a drama over the arrest.

“This arrest is nothing but a ploy to divert the attention that the Rahul yatra is getting every day in the state and the CPI-M has been rattled. This custody is nothing but a stage managed ploy undertaken by the CPI-M, who are known for engaging in such acts,” said Parambil.

Incidentally, soon after the incident took place in June, the police had taken Jithin into custody and after questioning for long let him away.

According to sources in the know of things, in all likelihood, Jithin will be produced before a local court later in the day.
