Contraband items worth Rs. 2 cr seized

A joint operation team of Assam Rifles Mokokchung battalion and Nagaland Police seized a huge consignment of contraband items and foreign-origin cigarettes estimated to be worth Rs 2.69 crore from Mokokchung Town on January 15. In this connection, two persons transporting the contraband items have been arrested.
A press release from Assam Rifles stated that the operation was carried out based on prior inputs about the movement of traffickers in possession of contraband items from Kohima to Jorhat via Mokokchung.
The troops set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Dailong Ward astride Mokokchung-Tuli Road and intercepted the suspected truck which was taken to Police Station for checking and investigation.
During the checking the team recovered 130 bags of Poppy seeds and 50 cartoons of foreign cigrattes of Indonesian & Burmese origin alongwith two persons. The entire consignment was seized and the individuals were handed over to police for further investigation.
