Court acquits 3 in 2018 murder case

Three persons accused in a murder case were acquitted in the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Zunheboto.
In a press release, public prosecutor Zunheboto, J Khetoholi Yeputhomi said the district and sessions judge Zunheboto, Ajongba Imchen acquitted Simon Gowala and Rajesh Gowala of Darjeeling, West Bengal from all the charges against them in connection with the alleged murder of one Abdul Khalique on August 15, 2018.
The court noted that the investigation of the case was conducted in a haphazard manner by the team led sub-inspector Khuovitho Pochury. As the investigation team’s probe revealed nothing but incompetence and dereliction of duty, the court directed director general of police (DGP) to initiate enquiry and take appropriate disciplinary action against those officers and police personnel involved in investigation of the case.
In the circumstances and hearing in mind the mental agony suffered by family members of deceased Abdul Khalique and expenses incurred during the last rites, the court also ordered compensation of the family.
It recommended that the case be considered by Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) for paying compensation to the family of the deceased on behalf of the State Government under the victim compensation scheme. However, the State was preparing for an appeal.
