CSOs lock BJP office in Kangpokpi

Manipur based Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Monday locked the main gate of ruling BJP’s office in Kangpokpi district and declared to boycott the party in the state.
CSOs locked down the BJP office with a padlock in protest against failure of the BJYM to clarify on September 16 firing incident at Leikot village.
CSOs alleged that on September 16, activists of BJYM Manipur Pradesh allegedly opened fire during a drive against illegal drugs in the village and injured a youth.
Terming the act of the BJYM activists as “unlawful”, residents of Leikot village demanded the state government to book the BJYM activists involved in the firing incident.
But with no action initiated, the CSOs threatened to impose a complete ban on all the activities of the BJP and BJYM if the demand of the Leikot villagers was not fulfilled within a week or before September 25.
With the expiry of the deadline, members of the district based CSOs locked the main gate of the BJP and pasted a bill which read, “Kangpokpi BJP office to remain shut from today, 26th September 2022 –CSO Kangpokpi”.
The members also declared to impose complete ban on all activities related to the BJP and its youth wing BJYM in the district indefinitely with immediate effect.
Earlier, a joint meeting of the CSOs held at Kangpokpi district headquarters on Sunday resolved to lock the office of the BJP in the state in protest against the party’s failure to give a positive response to the demand of the villagers.
After the meeting, the leaders of the CSOs appealed to the people of the district to not attend any event related to the BJP and urged organizations based in the district not to invite any BJP MLA, ministers and party leaders as guests at any event or function.
