A three-day long sports festival was organized by the District Child Protection Unit ( DCPU), Mokokchung from April 24t to 26 , at Care and Support Children’s Home, Mokokchung.
According to a press release from DCPU, the event was aimed to encourage sportsmanship and physical activities among children in the special Home.
The festival witnessed children participation in Ludo, carrom, race, long jump, high jump, football, arm wrestling , belt wrestling and Naga style wrestling.
The highlight of the event was the presence of Venuzo Dawhuo, the reigning champion of Nagaland Wrestling Association who graced the occasion as a special guest. He showcased the Naga style wrestling to the children and also motivated the children to take up wrestling as a sport and stressed on the importance of sports in one’s life.
DCPO Samuel Kapu emphasized the significance of sports in the development of children and encouraged the children to keep themselves active in sports to be healthy.
He also acknowledged the support of Observation Home staff, CWC, JJB and care and support society who came forward to extend their support to the cause.
