DDFRA celebrates 25th anniversary

Dimapur District Football Referee Association (DDFRA) celebrated 25th year of its inception under the theme “Unified We Succeed”, on Friday here at DDSC, Dimapur.
Sharing words of encouragement, Nagaland football referee board secretary, Lhouliebio Khezhie lauded the founder of DDFRA, Shiyito Achumi, who is also the president of DDFRA for his efforts and contribution towards the formation of the association along with like-minded individuals.
Khezhie said referees are always blamed and shamed, but have it not been the patience and endurance, the association would not come this far and thereby lauded the tireless efforts and contributions of the members.
Focusing on the theme, he urged the members to abide the unity in true spirit and continue to work together for the betterment and upliftment of the association and wished them the best in their endeavour.
Delivering welcome address, DDFRA president Shiyito Achumi, shared on the formation of the association wherein he informed that under his leadership, Dimapur Division Referee Association was formed on October 14, 1977, under Kohima district and became a landmark in the history of all football lovers and referees in Dimapur. And later, after Dimapur was recognized as district, it was named as Dimapur District Football Referee Association.
Mentioning about the challenges that they faced during its inception, he said although it was not a bed of roses, for the love of the game and determination, they have come this far. He also thanked all who have contributed and extended their cooperations and also for their patience. He also disclosed that the first referee of Nagaland was selected from DDFRA.
“If we are to promote football, we have to upgrade the referees and encourage them, as long as football is there, referee will be there”, he said and appealed to the sports officials and association to promote them.
Two minutes silence was also observed remembering the departed souls and dedicatory prayer and unveiling of the association magazine was done by Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, senior pastor Rev. Vitoshe Swu.
At the programme, invocation prayer was offered by L Hotovi Baptist Church, Rev Lujeto Yeptho and special song was presented by Musika School music teacher, Jekheto Acumi.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by Silver jubilee planning committee chairman, Ahokhe Chishi.
