Department of Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS) department flags off 6th Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Dimapur

Department of Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS) on April 7 flagged off the 6th Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) at FCI Godown, Kevijau Colony, Dimapur.
In a press release, the department informed that while flagging off the scheme, director, F&CS, V. Lovitoly Sema stated that the department had successfully implemented the PMGKAY – Phase I to V and that the sixth phase of the scheme was flagged off as per announcement of the centre. She also announced that targeted beneficiaries of NFSA would be benefited with additional allocation of 5 kg per person per month free of cost (April 2022 to September 2022).
Further, the director expressed gratitude to the FCI for the support and cooperation.
Delivering a short speech, divisional manager, Dimapur, P. Vanlalpak. K. Gante congratulated F&CS for the prompt response and appealed to the department for successful implementation of the said scheme as intended by the centre.
The programme was chaired by deputy director, F&CS, Dr. Kapenlo Thong.
The scheme was flagged off in the presence of additional director (F&CS), deputy director (F&CS), assistant director of supply (R&D), general manager (FCI), divisional manager (FCI), depot manager (FCI) and staff of directorate including MIS and R&D branch.
It may be mentioned that PMGKAY is an additional allocation of food grains to all the beneficiaries covered under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) free of cost.
The scheme is pro-poor initiative and a part of economic response to COVID-19 to ameliorate hardships faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the department celebrated “Anna Yojana & Public Distribution System” under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” in the office of the assistant director of Supply, Dimapur.
In a press release, MIS (Section) F&CS informed that during the programme, director, F&CS, V. Lovitoly Sema highlighted on “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and informed that PMGKAY Phase -I to Phase-V were successfully implemented in the state. She informed that the scheme had benefitted 3,08,284 households, covering a population of 14,03,579 under NFSA by the department through a network of 1679 fair price shops in the state.
Meanwhile, special guest of the programme, deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan while speaking on the pandemic in retrospect said that the basic needs and much required was food was fulfilled by PMGKAY.
He shared about the positive impact of PMGKAY scheme in Nagaland on NFSA beneficiaries during the pandemic and expressed gratitude to the department on the successful implementation of the scheme.
He added that a scheme like PMKAY provides a safety net and social security especially for BPL category, poor families and those who were eligible under NFSA.
The DC released PMGKAY brochure compiled by the department, in the presence of officers and staff of the directorate, assistant director of Supply (R&D) and divisional manager (FCI).
During the programme, two beneficiaries shared their testimony and acknowledged the department for being prompt in implementating the scheme.
The programme was chaired by inspector of Supply, Dimapur, Portia, brief report on PMGKAY was delivered by V. Lovitoly Sema while vote of thanks was proposed by assistant director of Supply, Dimapur, S.Kavito Aomi.
