Dimapur Gorkha Union celebrates silver jubilee

Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) celebrated it silver jubilee Saturday at Kuda Village Youth Hall, where the community was encouraged to introspect and retrospect for the betterment of the society.


Extending jubilee greetings, DGU president, Kumar Subha briefed the gathering on the inception of DGU, the challenges and successes of the union in reaching out to people at the grass-root level, and working for the welfare of the union.


Subha encouraged the Gorkha community to take pride in their history, continue to work hard, introspect and retrospect for the betterment and unity of the community and the society.
He also appreciated and thanked all those who had worked tirelessly for the progress of Gorkha community.
Delivering a brief history of the union, DGU executive member, Swapna Dewan Rai said an ad-hoc committee was setup in 1997 for the welfare of the Gorkha Union which paved the way for the formation of DGU.

She mentioned that the union over the years have undertaken various welfare activities for the betterment of the Gorkha community.
Rai also congratulated and thanked the founders, leaders, advisors, executive and members who have tirelessly worked for the welfare and goal of DGU.


Short speeches were delivered by DGU vice president, Chandra Subba, DGU chief advisor, Rahul Chetri, Gorkha Student Union Dimapur (GSUD), Imnatula Chetri and others.
The programme was chaired by DGU press and publicity secretary, Rashmi Subba, invocation was said by DGU advisor, Reverend B Vinod Rai.


Highlights of the celebration included cultural dances by Kuda Village Unit, Signal Angami Unit, Lengrijan Unit and Rangapahar Unit; special songs were presented by Notun Basti Unit and Samir Khanal; vote of thanks was delivered by DGU finance secretary, LB Gurung.
