MEGA MOCK DRILL ON EARTHQUAKE DISASTER SCENARIO OF 8.7 MAGNITUDE ON NOV 17
In preparation of the ensuing annual Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) scheduled to be held on November 17 across the state, District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) held table top exercises on Tuesday.
As per the directive of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), NEPEx on earthquake disaster scenario of 8.7 magnitude will be organised by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home department to test the capability of the State to respond and manage any mega disaster.
The respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and chairman DDMAs have also issued directives in regard to the forthcoming mega mock drill.
Kohima: Kohima DDMA held a table top exercise for the conduct of NEPEx 2022 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima office.
According to a DIPR report, chairperson of the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and incident commander DDMA Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori while briefing the line departments and stakeholders, informed that mock exercise would be held on November 17 at Kohima Town.
He informed that that the main staging area for the mock exercise would be set up at TM Government Higher Secondary School and five locations have been identified for the earthquake scenario, which included Grace High School, Bayavü, Dr. Neikhouzhü Kire Siekhazou, Mount Olive College Daklane, Mao Market and one residential area near the Heritage (Old DC Bungalow).
The ADC also informed that there would be five observers and Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) would be assisting during the mock exercise. He further informed the general public not to panic and to cooperate with the government agencies and the stakeholders during the mock exercise.
Wokha: Wokha DDMA held a meeting at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) and chairman Wokha DDMA to prepare for the ensuing mock drill scheduled on November 17.
According to a DIPR report, at the meeting, DC Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan informed that the Wokha DDMA has selected five staging areas namely, NDRF personnel will demonstrate the rescue of building collapse at Mt. Tiyi College and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Libemo Memorial Scholl and Employment Office for demonstration of partial building collapse and Daily Bazaar market to demonstrate fire incident and building collapse.
The DC and chairman WDDMA requested all concerned departments involved in the mock drill to actively participate in the successful conduct of the mock exercise.
Longleng: In connection with multi state level mock exercise on earthquake disaster to be held on November 17, a table top exercise was held at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Longleng office under the chairmanship of the DC and chairman DDMA, Longleng, Dharam Raj.
According to a DIPR report, the DC urged the officials to actively participate during the mock exercise for awareness and to response with capabilities when actual disaster strikes.
The DPA, DDMA Longleng, Vekuzo Lohe informed that four incident locations have been identified for the mock exercise.
Kiphire: Kiphire DDMA held table top exercise meeting at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kiphire office under the chairmanship of DC Kiphire, T. Wati Aier.
According to a DIPR report, DC stressed on the need to be well prepared for any calamity and also asked the gathering to impart sensitise the public on the benefits of planting more trees to tackle natural disasters. He also informed that the mock drill would be held on November 17 at three locations – Government Higher Secondary School, Daily Bazaar and District Agriculture Office Kiphire.
Mokokchung: Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DDMA Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh has informed that mega mock drill would be held on November 17 at five different locations under Mokokchung Town. In this regard, the DC has asked the public of Mokokchung Town not to panic during the conduct of the mock drill and further requested them to extend all cooperation towards the stakeholders involved for the smooth conduct of the mock exercise.
Chumoukedima: DDMA Chumoukedima conducted a table top exercise at Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chumoukedima under the chairmanship of DC and chairman DDMA, Abhinav Shivam.
According to a DIPR report, the DC has appealed to the concerned department in charge to know their roles and responsibilities during the mock drill. He also appealed to the public at the surrounding staging areas not to panic but to cooperate. It was informed that the main staging area for the mock exercise would be set up at DC Office and CTC Office.
Zunheboto: DDMA Zunheboto held a table top exercise at the Conference Hall of DC Zunheboto office, wherein DC and chairman DDMA, informed that the mega mock drill would be held on November 17. DC office has asked citizens to avoid confusion and chaos during the mock drill.
Dimapur: A table top exercise was held at Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur office under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dimapur.
Meanwhile, DC and chairman DDMA Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal has informed that mega mock drill would be conducted on November 17 at four vulnerable sites – Government High School (GHS) Lingrijan, GHS Sarbura, Forest Department Residential area and Pantaloons Dimapur. The DC has requested public not to panic and to extend cooperation. Further, DC has informed that normal traffic flow would be affected on certain routes during the exercise which would commence from 9 a.m. onwards.
