DLSAs launch ‘Haqhumarabhi to hai@75’ campaign across Nagaland

Along with the rest of the country, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) launched the “Haqhumarabhi to hai@75” campaign across the state.
A press release by NSLSA stated that commemorating the 75th year of Independence, the campaign aims to provide basic legal assistance to persons confined in prisons and child care institutions.
The campaign launched on October 31 would continue till November 13 across central and district jails in the state under the guidance and supervision of NLSA.
Kiphire: The field team of Kiphire DLSA led by panel lawyer, Lizila Sangtam along with Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) Tsasela Sangtam on November 3 visited District Jail Kiphire and interacted with the inmates. At present there are seven Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs) and two convicts. With regard to observation home there were no inmates at present, informed DLSA.
Tuensang: Field team of Tuensang DLSA led by retainer lawyer, Antimangyang Chang on November 2 visited Observation Home and District Jail Tuensang and interacted with the inmates. DLSA informed that at present there are 18 UTPs and six convicts at District Jail Tuensang and two inmates at Observation Home Tuensang.
Dimapur, Kohima: Field team of Dimapur DLSA on November 2 launched the campaign at District Jail, Dimapur. The Kohima DLSA also held consultative meeting with the panel lawyers and PLVs to carry out the campaign.
Wokha: Wokha DLSA on November 1 visited Observation Home Wokha and District Jail Wokha and rendered legal advice and counselling. The team was led by panel lawyers, Jacob Kikon, Shanchobeni P Lotha and assisted by Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) Abigail Lotha and Tsanthungo. DLSA informed that at present. there are 22 prisoners in the District Jail with 17 UTPs, sixconvicts. However, there were no children in conflict with law.
Phek: Phek DLSA led by Vethothi Vero, retainer lawyer, Phek DLSA along with PLVs – Dieze Vadeo and Nuveku Soho on November 1 visited and interacted with the UTPs and convicts at District Jail, Phek. At present there are 6 UTPs and 7 convicts.
Longleng: The field team of Longleng DLSA led by panel lawyer, Monyie Phom and PLV, Manau N on November 1-2 visited District Jail, Longleng and interacted with the prisoners.
