Manipur Rifles on Monday seized five Kgs of Crystal Methamphetamines (popularly known as Ice drug) worth around Rs. 5 crore in international market from a bakery in Imphal and arrested one person.
The arrested person has been identified as Bishnu Banik (32) son of Deepak Banik of Muslim Nagar (Moreh ward no. 5), police said.
The raid was conducted acting on reliable information and the state security personnel were assisted by volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA), a CSO actively involved in the drive against illegal drugs in the state, the source said.
When the team rushed to the bakery, Bishnu Banik was found alone and upon questioning and thorough checking, the personnel intercepted two packets of ice drug.
Further search led to the recovery of three more packets of the contraband drug, the police source said.
The source alleged that the arrested drug smuggler received the Ice drug consignment from one of his partners Karim from Imphal East and was about to deliver the same to one person outside the state.
The arrested alleged drug peddler along with the seized drug was handed over to Imphal police station after lodging a case, the source said.
