Acting on a tip-off, Karbi Anglong police seized a huge quantity of heroin from two vehicles along Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong on Sunday.
The police also arrested three persons, including a lady, in connection with the seized drugs whose approximate value was reported to be around Rs 10 crore.
Sources said, based on specific inputs, the police intercepted two vehicles in Rengma Basti area adjacent to the inter-State border and searched them, which led to recovery of 99 boxes – 50 boxes from Maruti Eeco van (NL 07CB 2827) and 49 boxes from Maruti Gypsy (NL07CA 5586) – containing 1.330 kg heroin that were hidden inside the vehicles.
The police arrested a lady identified as 25-year-old Avi alias Angela, besides Pavei Saichama (25) and Veio (42). While Avi is a resident of New Minister Hill, Kohima, Pavei and Veio are residents of Tadubi in Senapati district of Manipur.
The sources said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested trio were carrying the drugs from Manipur and had used the Rengma Basti route to enter Assam to avoid the routine police check at Khatkhati.
The police naka was set up by Bokajan SDPO John Das, Bokajan police station (PS) office in-charge (OC) inspector Mwblik Brahma, Khatkhati PS OC sub-inspector (UB) Raju Duara, SI (UB) Atikur Rahman, SI (P) Swmdwn Sargiyari, APRG staff, Khatkhati PS staff, ASCOM C20 CRPF camp Bokajan Rabi Gill and staff, the sources added.
