Eastern Nagaland Morungs empty

The tribal Morungs allotted to cultural troupes from Eastern Nagaland at the Hornbill Festival wore a deserted look as the seven tribes– Chang, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Yimkhiung, Sangtam, Phom and Tikhir, abstained from taking part in the festival. The abstention was as per the resolution adopted during the ENPO-CEC meeting held on October 14, 2022 at Tuensang.
In order to effect some representation, the state government had devised its plan ‘B’ where it was decided to invite Kohima and Dimapur-based eastern cultural clubs to take part in the festival. However, none of the cultural troupes turned up on the opening day.
Even ornaments, attires and various cultural items were not on display at the Hornbill Festival at Kisama as per the call Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) and Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO).
Both had issued strict directive that “no individual, group or organization and government agencies should display any cultural items belonging to seven tribes of Eastern Nagaland during the entire Hornbill Festival under any circumstances.”
