ENPO delegation to meet MHA team soon; reaffirms to abstain from polls

Even as the State gears up for Assembly elections scheduled on February 27, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) expressed its determination to abstain from participating in the forthcoming elections until talks with the Central government reached a logical conclusion.
The decision was reaffirmed on Thursday at the joint consultative meeting held at Konyak Morung, Dimapur.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, ENPO president Tsapikiu Sangtam said the joint consultative meet was attended by leaders of seven eastern tribal bodies, Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation (ENWO), Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) and the Talk Team.
He mentioned that the meeting discussed the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), adding that a delegation of the ENPO would be meeting the MHA constituted committee soon.
Sangtam however declined to divulge the proposal of the MHA panel, but reiterated that the August 26, 2022 resolution to abstain from assembly election still stood until talks between MHA team and ENPO reached a logical conclusion.
It may be mentioned that the decision of ENPO was fully backed by seven tribal bodies, who have also declared to abstain from election till the demand for ‘Frontier Nagaland’ was met, even as Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) declared its decision to participate in the election.
KU demands explanation from BJP Mon
Taking serious note of viral videos and pictures of BJP party members protesting at the BJP office in Mon, Konyak Union (KU) has served an “explanation call” notice to BJP Mon unit for violating the order banning any election-related campaign etc. in Eastern Nagaland.
As per the notice signed by, KU vice president H.A. Hongna Konyak and general secretary Manpang K Wangyen reminded that KU had issued notification for the second time on January 13, 2023 banning all political activities within Mon district, warning that necessary actions would be initiated against defaulters by KU until the demand of Frontier Nagaland was granted by the Government of India befittingly.
However, KU said the BJP Mon willfully defied the order.
Therefore, KU had asked BJP Mon unit president and secretary to appear before KU on January 26, failing which it warned of severe action.
