Excise deptt. destroys drugs

Drugs Destruction Committee of the Excise department on November 30 carried out a destruction of seized narcotic and others drugs worth Rs. 5.76 crores (estimated street value).
In a press release, assistant commissioner Excise Kohima (Zonal), T Arilong Longkumer informed that ganja (270 kgs), heroin (2.44 kg), codeine-based cough syrup (2160 bottles) and 12000 capsules of spasmo proxyvon were destroyed at Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dump yard, Meriema.
Speaking on the occasion, assistant commissioner of Excise (Adm), Phyobemo Kikon commended the Excise personnel for the tireless effort despite numerous challenges and asked them to continue the vigil as a moral social responsibility.
Ark Foundation president, Ketho Angami stressed on the need for close collaboration between NGOs involved in demand reduction and enforcement agencies. He emphasised that it was high time that drug addiction should not be seen as a crime but accepted as a disease that needs to be cared for.
