Excise deptt seize assorted IMFL in Dimapur

Barely a day after Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the Assembly election schedule, Excise Department seized 4,560 bottles of assorted IMFL from in and around Dimapur town on Thursday.
According to a press release issued by commissioner of excise H Atokhe Aye, three units of Mobile Squad, Narcotic Cell and Dimapur District Excise conducted a lightning raid in and around Dimapur town and seized the liquor bottles.
Twenty four persons were also arrested in this connection and penalised under relevant section of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.
Further, with the announcement of Assembly election schedule by ECI and the coming into force of the Model Code Of Conduct (MCC), the Excise Department has also announced precautionary measures to check illegal flow of liquor and drugs during the election process and to prevent their use as inducements for votes.
The general public and local residential authorities have been requested to report any use of alcohol during the election campaign to the enforcement authority, besides sharing information about any suspected activities like stockpiling, location of illicit liquor godowns, etc.
The commissioner said any such information might be conveyed to assistant commissioner, enforcement (Mobile no. 89743 18888).
He disclosed that check gate vigilance and surveillance had also been intensified and tightened, stating that regular frisking operations of suspected vehicles would be the order of the day.
He cautioned that general public as well as commercial and private vehicles carrying any kind of contraband would be penalised as per the law.
All shops, restaurants, hotels, lodges, etc, would be subjected to frequent checking and surprise inspections.
Defaulters would invite punitive measures and process would be initiated for cancellation of their licences by the competent authority.
There would also be regular round-the-clock MVCP and STF patrols in all districts.
Aye clarified that the regulations and measures had been put in place to ensure an alcohol and drug-free electioneering in the State. He requested the citizens to extend their cooperation to the Excise Department towards the objective.
