DIMAPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng, ICAR Nagaland Centre organised a two-day training and demonstration under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) programme at Lingtak village on “Packages and practices of organic ginger (var. Nadia) production in Longleng district on March 29 and 30.
In a press release, KVK Longleng informed that resource person for the programme were scientist (Horticulture) Dr. Azeze and scientist (Agro Forestry) from ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, Dr. Pempa Bhutia.
The programme began with a brief introduction by SMS and in-charge KVK Longleng, Dr. Lily Ngullie, who highlighted about the implementation of TSP project on large scale cultivation of ginger (var. nadia) at Lingtak village.
Packages and practices of organic ginger cultivation along with demonstration was delivered by Dr. Azeze and importance of conservation of agroforestry trees especially on top of hills for conservation of soil and water was delivered by Dr. Pempa Bhutia.
During the programme, 160 q. of ginger rhizome (Var Nadia) and inputs were distributed to selected farmers for ginger cultivation in an eight hectare compacted area.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by village council chairman, Shungai Phom. Altogether, 48 farmers with KVK staff and scientists attended the programme.
