Focus on community development: Pangnyu

Minister of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW), S Pangnyu Phom has called upon leaders of Phom community to come together in the spirit of peace and oneness and focus on community development.
According to a DIPR report, the minister urged the leaders of the Phom community – church, civil society organisations/non-governmental organisations and political parties – to do away with their “selfish mindset” and focus on community development, giving special treatment to the areas lagging behind.
Pangnyu said this while inaugurating the newly recognised villages namely Yongsham, Mungkhu and Meyongkhang and inauguration of medical sub-centre at Yongphang, Hukphang and Mongtikang village on December 16-17.
He urged the Phoms to uphold the peace with feelings of oneness as pledge by the Phom community during Phom Day, observed every year on June 6.
Asserting that Phoms are peace-loving people, Pangnyu said “divisive politics” have led to hatred and disunity among the people, and advised the gathering to refrain from such politics and move forward together for a prosperous future. He added that strong and capable political leadership was required to bring change and development.
The minister also informed that Sakshi block was selected as “aspirant block” of the district keeping in mind the “backwardness” of the block, and to make it at par with other blocks of the district.
He also said the recognition of the new villages was a joint effort and thanked the concerned department and the district administration for their cooperation and support.
Stating that responsibility to mould and shape the future of the villages lies upon the villagers, he asked the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Longleng not to delay the proposal submitted by these villages to avail government facilities.
In a short speech, DC Longleng, Dharam Raj assured that district administration was ready to provide all possible facilities and requirements to redress the problems.
While inaugurating medical sub-centres, Pangnyu lamented that there were many non-functional sub-centres in the state when he took over as the minister in-charge.
He said Covid-19 pandemic was a “blessing in disguise” to improve the health care facilities and infrastructure development of hospitals in the state. The minister said for the benefit of the ENPO areas Medical College was established in Mon and all Nagaland Ayush College in Longleng.
