Games & sports no longer pastime, but issue of professionalism: Jacob

PHED minister Jacob Zhimomi said that the state government was keen and serious about promotion of sports in the state, as games and sports were no longer just pastime but an issue of professionalism.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the six-day 24th MBE Zhuikhe memorial gold cup as the special guest on Wednesday, at Shokhuvi village.
The event is also part of the Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) pre-jubilee celebration.
The special guest said that there were many upcoming Naga youths, who have the potentials to achieve, but they needed to put more efforts in order to succeed. On the unemployment sector, the minister mentioned that government employee is overly saturated and it is not possible for the state government to provide job to every unemployed youth. In this regard, he encouraged the youth to not only seek for government job but also seek alternative avenues for sustainability. The minister also encouraged the youth not to be dependent on their parents but to come out of their comfort zone.
At the programme, invocation prayer was offered by AACLF chairman Rev. Viyeto Chishi, welcome address was delivered by GB Vekuto Swu, cultural presentation by Shokhuvi Baptist Church Youth ministry and special song by SBC associate pastor Julika.
Pre-jubilee greetings was delivered by jubilee convenor Huska Zhimo, dedicatory prayer for jubilee committee was offered by WSBAK executive secretary Rev. Dr. Phughoto Aye and donor’s speech by secretariat assistant (IPR) Kohima, Viloto Zhimomi and oath was administered by WSSA games secretary.
Later, the minister also declared the event open. The event will include football match, man volleyball and women volleyball. The event will culminate on January 16.
