A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the State government and Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) for development and area expansion under oil palm cultivation and processing for Zone-I (Peren, Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland and Wokha districts) in the State of Nagaland under National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) on January 9.
State government was represented by Director of Agriculture, Nagaland and GAVL by CEO- Oil Palm Business, Godrej Agrovet Limited, Godrej one, 3rd Floor, Pirojshanagar, Eastern Express Highway, Vikhroli (East), Mumbai.
A press release by the department of Agriculture stated that Godrej Agrovet Limited is the largest developer in oil palm business in India managing about 60,000 ha and six palm oil mills and the only company operating a mill in North East India since 2014.
Besides Nagaland, the company has also signed MoU for oil palm in the States of Mizoram, Assam, Manipur and Tripura.
The company has also agreed to buy the existing Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) from the existing plants from this year onwards on the special request made by the Director of Agriculture, Nagaland.
The CEO of GAVL was impressed by the existing infrastructure and potential of oil palm development in the State.
