A 14-day state handloom expo organized by Nagaland Apex weavers and Artisans co-operative Federation Ltd. and sponsored by the office of the development commissioner (handloom) Ministry of Textiles is underway at Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall, Kohima.
At the inaugural function on Friday, managing director, Gwaruno Khing highlighted on the main objective of the expo- to serve and provide a platform for the rural women’s weavers and artisans to sell their products and to bring linkage to develop and promote marketing channels with the buyers and sellers.
Commissioner and secretary department of Cooperation, Sehjang Doungel said that the expo was to promote a vibrant platform to the weavers and cooperatives sector to exhibit and sell their products.
He said under the sponsorship of development commissioner for handlooms ministry of Textiles Government of India, the state handloom expo has been making great efforts for the welfare of artisans, and wavers community.
It not only provide skill training to unemployed youth of the region in various crafts through its training center but provide handholding of those trained weavers and artisians by registering them with the department for availing various benefit provided by the government through different schemes, he said.
