A hands-on training on “lemon grass oil-distillation & smoke-free drying of meat” was organized by STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU, Medziphema campus, Nagaland centre on June 28, at the technology demonstration unit under the initiative of dean SASRD and project in-charge, STINER-TFC, Prof. Akali Sema.
Addressing the programme, HoD, department of Agricultural Extension, SASRD NU, Prof. K.K Jha emphasised on developing entrepreneurial mindset among young people and how collective efforts were being made towards achieving this goal.
He stressed on how STINER as a centre can handhold aspiring entrepreneurs to start or scale up their business through various technological intervention.
The first session was conducted on oil distillation of lemongrass, demonstrated by technical assistant, STINER-TFC, Kevisal Lawrence Richa, who gave a practical demonstration on cultivation practice of lemongrass.
He emphasised on how this crop having diverse uses, when taken as an enterprise will be highly feasible in the uncultivable hilly terrains of the region and help generate employment.
The second session was presented by project assistant, STINER-TFC, Rokosieno Zao on smoke free drying of meat where she elaborated on various health benefits of smoke free products and how the portable technology was specially designed to obtain smoke free meat products.
Altogether, 20 participants comprising of scholars, students and aspiring entrepreneurs attended the training programme.
The programme was chaired by project assistant, STINER-TFC, Dr. Sentirenla Changkiri while vote of thanks was proposed by project assistant, STINER-TFC Bikram Ghimere.
The hands-on training programme was aimed at sensitising locals on revenue generating activities with “creating entrepreneurial mindset and encouraging skill development” being the major mandate of the centre.
