Hekani Jakhalu, who has scripted history by becoming the first women legislator in Nagaland, held a thanksgiving programme at her residence, Toluvi village here on Saturday. She contested from 3 Dimapur III assembly constituency. Hekani has been appointed as advisor industries and commerce.
Speaking at the programme, Hekani expressed her gratitude to all who had extended their support and marking it a “historic” win.
She expressed her gratitude to the chief minister Neiphiu Rio and senior leaders who had extended their support and expressed happiness on the portfolio allotted to her.
Jakhalu reminded her constituency that the door is open for everyone to work together as “team” to bring progress and development and make the 3 Dimapur III as “Model constituency”.
Sharing her journey as social worker, Jakhalu maintained that God has prepared her for this position to serve the people.
The advisor while saying that youth were her strength and they are the future of tomorrow, she called upon the youth of the constituency to work together with patience, consistency, dedication and sincerity.
On the sidelines, speaking to the media on the portfolio, Jakhalu commented that regardless of the people’s belief that Industries and commerce portfolio is a “dead portfolio”, it is not the same now. She highlighted that industries and commerce was the only department which has four ministries under it; Ministry of textiles, Ministry of food processing, Ministry of MSME and Ministry of industries and commerce, which was “huge”.
Expressing her excitement to work in the department for which she has been contributing all these years, Jakhalu encouraged the youth that there is so much opportunities everywhere and that it is time to grab the opportunities with consistency and patience.
Short speeches were also delivered by NDPP, Urra unit president Mudopoyi Rhakho, Tsithrongse village head GB TsithrongseSangtam, 3 Dimapur III A/C NDPP women organization president SentilaKichu, NDPP Dimapur region president Vihoshe Awomi and NDPP central secretary SK Khemprai.
The programme was chaired by Joythar Khemprai, special song and invocation prayer by Toluvi Baptist Church pastor V AtosheAwomi, special song was presented by KekhrieRinga and Alobo Naga, felicitation was presided over by Dimapur III A/C NDPP president BohosheAwomi.
Later, vote of thanks was delivered by Dimapur III A/C NDPP working president TohosheAwomi and benediction was proposed by Chakhesang Baptist Church, Toulazouma pastor Mosa Nukhu.
