In its continued drive against narcotic drugs, police in Karbi Anglong recovered 1.304 kg of heroin in two operations conducted in Lahorijan and Diphu in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.
“The value of the seized contraband is approximately 7 crore in the black market,” said Bokajan SDPO John Das.
In the first operation, the police recovered 304 grams of heroin from Lahorijan area close to Assam-Nagaland border in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday morning.
“Based on specific information, a naka was set up in front of Lahorijan Police Post and at around 10.30 am, a TATA DI vehicle bearing registration no AS02CC2548 was intercepted and on being thorough search, 25 soap cases containing 304 grams of heroin were recovered by the police team,” Bokajan SDPO John Das said.
One person namely Fayas Uddin (18) son of Abdul Matin of Haldi Ati village under Dabaka police station of Hojai district was arrested in connection.
“The second operation was carried out based on secret information at a place outside Diphu Railway Station. We recovered 1 kg of heroin from two persons who hail from Jhalawar in Rajasthan,” Das said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Chandra Sekhar Sen (45) son of late Ghanashyam Sen of Aktasa village in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan and Dhiraj Solanki (30) son of Dhanraj Solanki of Aklera village in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan.
Priest, two others held for drug peddling in Assam
A priest and two others have been arrested in Assam’s Nagaon district for their alleged involvement in drug peddling, police said on Wednesday.
The three accused were held in the Crossing Gate Bazar area of Lumding town late on Monday night, a senior officer said.
“Based on specific information, we apprehended a man, who is a priest in a temple in Lumding. Two others were also arrested for smuggling contraband into the area,” Lumding Police Station Officer-in-Charge Chandan Jyoti Bora said.
Drugs in a plastic container have also been recovered from their possession.
“The accused were produced before Hojai’s Sankardev Nagar Court on Tuesday and sent them to judicial custody,” he added.
