Hornbill boat race at Doyang

The two-day, 2nd Canoe Spring/Boat Race, which was part of the Hornbill Festival began Tuesday at Falcon Creek, Tsuza Eryu Doyang, Pangti village under Wokha district.
According to DIPR report, the event was graced by principal Bailley Baptist College, Wokha Penthungo Ngullie as special guest.
Addressing the participants, Ngullie said despite rich natural resources Wokha district has been blessed with beautiful landscape and has the potential to generate revenues for self-sustainability.
However, he lamented that the district was yet to explore the potentials and added that through this kind of activities, a greater platform could be provided to attract tourist as well as generate revenue that will boost the economy.
On the first day of the event, canoe sprint for the fishermen/single category was held, where 14 participants took part in the competition.
Lawerence Yanthan, Longshithung Kikon and Nzanthung Shitiri emerged as the first, second and third respectively. On the second day on Wednesday, canoe sprint for doubles categories will be conducted.
The event was organised as part of the Hornbill Festival with the support and sponsorship by Tourism department, government of Nagaland.
According to the organisers, The Falcon Creek, the objective was targeted at creating recreation for fisherman, talent hunt in coordination with the Government of India in near future, and to tap the tourism potentials in the area and other activities.
