Huluyi wins Open Chakhesang Wrestling title


Huluyi D Vadeo, 20-year old from Sakraba village under Phek district, emerged as the winner of the 2nd Open Chakhesang Naga Wrestling Championship organised by Chakhesang Wrestling Association at Pfütsero Sports Complex on Friday.
Vadeo defeated Kekhriezo Nagi of Sechü Zubza village under Kohima district by two straight bouts to lift the title.
Standing at 6 feet and weighing 91 kgs, Vadeo is the son of late Vecüzo D Vadeo.
Earlier, Huluyi D Vadeo came in third position at the Chakhesang wrestling meet 2022 and was also the champion of Secheku area wrestling Champion 2022.
Second position holder, 31 year old Nagi, who is 5.7 feet and weighing 88 kg, is the son of late Videtuolie Nagi.
In the third place, Pfusato Tetseo from K Bawe village defeated Medosatuo Paünuo from Kijumetuoma village.
Reigning champion KezhavizoThevo lost to Medosatuo Paünuo in the quarterfinals round. While Southern Angami Wrestling Champion, Atuo Tevo, lost to Huluyi D Vadeo in quarter final match.
The champion Huluyi D Vadeo received Rs 2 lakhs along with citations while second position holder Nagi got Rs 1 lakh.
Third position Pfusato Tetseo and fourth Medosatuo Paünuo received
Rs. 70,000 and Rs.50,000 respectively.
The losing quarter-finalists Kethoulhou Mejura, Mudotso Thira, Kezhavizo Thevo, Atuo Tevo received Rs. 10,000 each.
A total of 60 wrestlers including three each from Karnataka and Delhi took part in this edition.
While Sentilong Imchen from Mokokchung also took part in the championship.
UDA co-chairman, Kuzholuzo Nienu and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) vice president, Neikhrolo Khalo, were special guest and guest of honour for the championship respectively.
