IMD issues orange alert for rainfall in NE

The Indian Metrological Department (IMD), said that Cyclone Mocha that made landfall in Bangladesh and Myanmar coasts is continuing the weakening trend and warned that very heavy rainfall will occur over North Eastern states.
Issuing an orange alert for the North Eastern region, IMD predicted rainfall very likely over the region during the next five days.
It said that heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh on May 15-16, similar conditions will prevail over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from May 15 to18.
Very heavy falls has been predicted over Assam, Meghalaya on May 15, 16 and 18 and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during May 15-17.
Meanwhile, it has been predicted that scorching heat waves will take over most of India on May 15 and 16, affecting tens of millions of people across a vast landmass in central and northern India.
Experts have pointed out that the intensity and frequency of heatwaves have increased over the years.
Meanwhile, the power demand is likely to rise as more people would turn to cooling devices such as air conditioners.
