Infighting within NSCN (YA) GHQ and CHQ members

Nearly two months after Naga army personnel of the Myanmar based-Yung Augn-led NSCN (K) faction rebelled against the leadership of president Yung Aung citing “mal-administration system”, there are reports of exchange of fire between members of the group at CHQ and those at General Headquarters (GHQ).
Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) informed that members of Yung Aung-led NSCN, who are stationed at Council headquarters (CHQ), Taka “forcefully” attacked GHQ members and started firing in Nyanching field on June 5, 2023 at around 3pm.
In a press release, KUM president PM Aman, KUM general secretary K Akham Honwang and ex-president of KUM SA Khotai there was no report of casualty till evening. KUM, with its headquarters at Yenchung village, Lahe township, Sagaing division, Naga Self-Administered Zone (SAZ), informed that exchange of fire lasted for about an hour from 3-4pm.
KUM, on behalf of Eastern Konyak, has appealed to the NSCN (K) groups to maintain restraint and desist from fighting among Nagas. KUM also urged the NSCN (K) to listen to the voice of the people.
KUM cautioned that public would declare non-cooperation to any group ignoring the appeal.
Further, KUM appealed to other Naga Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to condemn such acts within the Naga family.
According to KUM, it had invited Naga Yuya, Naga Students’ Organization (NSO) and Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) to join the mission and had tried to negotiate for peace between the NSCN (K) GHQ and CHQ. From April-June, KUM said it had along with Naga, Yuya, NSO and ENSA been trying to settle for peace within NSCN (K) government.
