Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN) state branch joined the rest of the world Sunday in celebrating “World Red Cross Day 2022” under the theme, “Be Human Kind”.
World Red Cross Day also known as Red Crescent Movement is celebrated every year on May 8. This day marks the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, who was the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies (RCS) in its website said May 8 is a “global day to celebrate the uniqueness and unity of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement”. It said 2022 theme was aimed to put “kindness in the picture” and encourage people around the world to “Be Human Kind”
In Nagaland, IRCSN state branch celebrated the day at Dzuleke Village, Kohima by distributing blankets to old age people in the village.
In a press release, IRCSN stated that delivering a speech, Managing Committee (MC) member, IRCSN, Dr. R Rose Chakhesang emphasized on the seven principles of Red Cross.
Stressing on how the present society was in dire need of kindness, Dr. Rose said an act of a Good Samaritan goes a long way in saving precious lives.
The programme was chaired by MC member, IRCSN, Dr. Kepelhusie Terhuja and vote of thanks was delivered by IRCSN, finance secretary cum treasurer, Kekhwewe Sekhamo.
