Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü emerged champion of Dapfhütsumia Khel (D Khel) during the wrestling heat 2023 organised by Dapfhütsumia Youth Organisation (DYO) at D Khel ground, here on Saturday.
Defending champion Kezhaseluo-o retained the title by downing Menuosetuo Yiese in the final match.
Seyiekhrietuo Yiese and Sedevizo Keretsü were placed in the third and fourth positions respectively. Earlier, gracing the inaugural session as the special guest, senior leader, Medoselhou Keretsü, exhorted the gathering of wrestlers to lead a healthy lifestyle and be exemplary sportspersons.
He encouraged the players to give their best and also wished them success in the upcoming matches.
A total of 32 wrestlers from the four hamlets (Terhüba) under D Khel participated in the event.
Kitsuoba Rhüba and Preilhobazou Rhüba emerged overall champions during the heat.
In a new development, a running belt was also introduced to the event, which was sponsored by veteran wrestler and former Nagaland wrestling champion, Kezhalelie Keretsü. The D. Khel heat is the first round of events which will then proceed to Kohima village wrestling meet and subsequently till Naga Wrestling Association’s championship to be held next year.
Earlier, the inaugural was chaired by president, DYO Neisedelie Sachü, while Rev Viwelie Khezhie, invoked God’s blessings. Oath taking was pronounced by wrestling secretary, DYO, Kevisalie Kire, while Neikuolie Khezhie presented a special number.
