Krishi Vigan Kendra (KVK) Phek and ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema organised “Kisan Gosthi”-cum-exhibition under natural farming on Tuesday at KVK Phek premises, Porba.
A press release by KVK Phek informed that the welcome address and brief introduction viz principles and components of natural farming was delivered by senior scientist and head, Dr. T. Esther Longkumer.
She also explained about soil and water conservation method in natural farming.
In-charge, ACTO-Agronomy, Dr Hannah K Asangla spoke on the zero tillage in field pea cultivation while farm manager, Keniseto Chucha elaborated on botanical remedies from plant material under natural control.
In a speech, branch manager, NStCB Pfutsero, Vizol Kera said Phek district was blessed with naturally fertile soil for cultivating any crop. He encouraged the farmers to take up farming activities wholeheartedly so that regular income could be generated.
Kera mentioned that natural farming has been practiced since time immemorial and has benefitted the farming community as the produce is natural and organic. He also elaborated on different financial packages available for the farmers.
Farmer’s scientist interaction programme and exhibition cum demonstration of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit was also conducted. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by TO (computer), Er Nukusa T Vadeo. Altogether, 113 participants including government officials participated in the programme.
